Gas Pedal Recall on Many Toyotas
On January 21, Toyota announced its intention to recall approximately 2.3 million select Toyota Division vehicles equipped with certain accelerator pedal mechanisms that may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position. Toyota vehicles affected by the recall include:

  • Certain 2014-2014 RAV4
  • Certain 2014-2014 Corolla
  • 2014-2014 Matrix
  • 2014-2014 Avalon
  • Certain 2014-2014 Camry
  • Certain 2014 Highlander
  • 2014-2014 Tundra
  • 2014-2014 Sequoia

NEW YORK ( -- Toyota has recalled 2014 model year Priuses as well as the closely related Lexus HS250h hybrid luxury car.

What cars are involved?

2014 model year Toyota Priuses manufactured before January 27 Only the 2014 model year is involved because previous generations had different brake system software.


How many vehicles are involved?

About 150,000 vehicles are involved in the U.S. and about 400,000 worldwide.


What's the problem?

The anti-lock braking causes the cars to have an "inconsistent brake feel" during slow and steady application of the brakes on rough or slippery surfaces. The ABS is operating as it's supposed to, Toyota says.
